ARAI to set up ‘E-Mobility Centre of Excellence’ in Pune
Pune, December 7, 2017: Pune is all set to witness world of futuristic transportation systems at ‘ITEC INDIA 2017’ (International Transportation Electrification Conference India) having central theme of ‘Electrical Vehicle Ecosystem – Resetting the Future of Mobility’.
This 3-day mega event on e-mobility will bring together the think tank from the automotive fraternity and electrical & electronics industry to deliberate on innovations and research for electrification of transportation sector. The conference blends the expertise and experience of the organizers, i.e. Society of Automotive Engineers India, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and ARAI (renowned R&D and Testing Institute in India, with rich experience in automotive domain).
While announcing the conference, Rashmi Urdhwareshe, Chair-Steering Committee ITEC-2017 and Director, ARAI said, “ITEC INDIA 2017 is aimed at helping the industry in effortless transition from conventional to advanced electrified vehicles. This conference will be inaugurated by Dr. Abhay Firodia, President-SIAM and Chairman, Force Motors Limited in the presence of Mr. Doug Patton, President-SAE International and Dr. Tomy Sebastian, President –IEEE IAS.”
Rashmi Urdhwareshe added “The event is happening at the backdrop of Government’s announcement of electrification of road vehicles by 2030, with a target of reducing crude oil dependency and import bill and increasing concern over urban air pollution, wherein all the stakeholders are looking forward to collective efforts for successful adoption of electric vehicles.”
Ujjwala Karle, General Manager, ARAI and Convener- ITEC-2017 informed that the conference will feature more than 20 technical sessions with over 120 technical papers and 30 keynotes across three days. More than 500 delegates across 14 countries will be participating in this event.
Eminent speakers, representing different countries across the globe, such as Honda (Japan), Toyota (Japan), AVL (Austria), MIRA (UK), Schaffler (Germany), LG Chem (USA), Volkswagen (Germany), etc. will share their experience, knowledge and way ahead in meeting the challenges. Additionally, there will be experts from prominent academic and R&D institutes such as Fraunhoffer (Germany), TUV SUD (Germany), Florida University (USA), NAMI (Russia), Concordia University (Canada), Cambridge University (UK), etc. Experts from prominent Indian Automotive OEs, allied industries, Academia Institutes such as CDAC, ISRO, IISc, IITs, NITs, etc. are participating.
Exposition, which is being organized concurrently, features 35 stalls. E-vehicles, including 2-wheelers, 3-wheelers, cars and buses will be at display. One of the attractions of this event is “Ride and Drive” experience of the electric vehicles at display.
Setting up of E-Mobility Centre of Excellence at ARAI, Pune
ARAI, an apex body, in collaboration with national/international organizations, has been pro-actively taking multiple initiatives to address e-mobility challenges and formulation of different regulations, specific to electric and hybrid electric vehicles.
‘E-Mobility Center of Excellence’ is set up by ARAI, in Pune. Major facilities include battery emulator, motor test beds, battery test systems, hardware-in-loop (HIL) systems, etc. covering range of vehicles from 2-wheeler to bus segment.
Commenting on this Center, Urdhwareshe said, “The ‘E-Mobility Center of Excellence’ would be a one of its kind in India, which will have state-of-the-art facilities for development, evaluation, benchmarking, validation and certification testing of electric and hybrid electric vehicles and related sub-systems and components. ARAI has envisaged this center to be the facility, which will be able to offer and cater to all services / meet the requirements of the automotive and ancillary industry in India, under a single roof. This will make ARAI a preferred solution provider in e-mobility”.
This e-mobility Centre will be launched at the auspicious hands of Shri Anant Geete, Hon’ble Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Govt. of India, by unveiling the Corner Stone during the Valedictory Function of ‘ITEC INDIA 2017’ on 15th December 2017.
ITEC INDIA 2017 being jointly organized by the ARAI, SAE-India and IEEE-IAS will act as a platform for all the stakeholders to exchange ideas and work cohesively to achieve the goal of electrification of transportation in a larger context.
